Manning is hoping that if the Ravens play their best volleyball in Coalville, they might actually get the best of the Braves.
The Braves return senior Courtney Rognan, who moved from middle to outside hitter for her final prep season. She leads the team in blocks and kills. She has a strong supporting cast including Katie Vernon, junior middle blocker, Monica Stephens, senior outside hitter, and Kelli Stewart, junior middle blocker. All of this offensive power is harnessed by sophomore setter Jenessa Williams, who is quick on her feet with nice hands.
So far the Braves are undefeated in region play, and coach Samantha Stephens hopes another region title is within their reach.
"Our offensive is improving," Stephens said. She looks forward to continued success and a tournament over UEA that will allow her to see how the Braves stack up against other 2A teams.
"I'm very excited to go to the Richfield tournament," she said.
South Summit is much improved this season, as is Rowland Hall-St. Mark's. The Winged Lions have four returning starters that anchor a very talented squad.
"A lot of firepower at the net," said head coach Kendra Tomsic, "and some strong passers and defensive players could combine for one of our best seasons yet."
The team is led by senior outside hitter Molly Jones, senior middle blocker Jerica Johnson, and sophomore setter Erin Lence.
Juab may have been voted No. 5 in the region, but he Wasps always have a core of multisport athletes to build around and they could be the surprise of the season.
American Leadership Academy was an unknown to most coaches but could cause some problems as they continue to improve.
