Important Volleyball Info for Freshmen (2008-2009)
Tryouts and Freshmen Interim Tryouts for Upper School volleyball teams (freshmen/sophomore, junior varsity and varsity) will be held on Monday and Tuesday, August 11-12, from 8:00 am until noon. Tryouts are mandatory. If you are not at tryouts you will not be considered for a spot on an Upper School team. Interim, however, is the exception to this rule. Because Interim has been scheduled during the same week as tryouts, a special tryout session for Freshman girls participating in Interim will be held Monday and Tuesday, August 18-19 (times to be announced at a later date). Freshman girls who do not participate in Interim will be expected to try out on August 11 and 12. Summer Practice Schedule After tryouts, practices will be held weekdays beginning Wednesday, August 13, through the beginning of school. Several two-a-day practices will be held during the weeks of August 11 and August 18. After two-a-days, practice will be weekdays from 8:00 am until 11:30 am. These practices are necessary for the teams to prepare adequately for pre-season matches that begin around August 22. Attendance at practices is mandatory. Practices and Games during the School Year Once school begins, teams will practice every school day from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Most of our matches will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays with freshmen/sophomores starting at 4:30 pm, junior varsity at 5:45 pm and varsity at 7:00 pm. For away games, teams will be transported on a bus from Waterford to the host school. The other teams in our region are Judge Memorial (Salt Lake City), Park City HS (Park City), Wasatch HS (Heber), Uintah HS (Vernal) and Union HS (Roosevelt). Travel to and from these schools is time-consuming. This is especially true of the trips to Vernal and to Roosevelt. Be prepared for some very long evenings when traveling.
