Raven JR Girls Win 2 More
5/12/07 - Waterford JR. Girl's Lacrosse team extended their undefeated 2007 season record to 6-0-1 with 2 wins in back-to-back games on Saturday. Raven girls first dispatched powerhouse North Salt Lake by a score of 7 - 4, then came back in the second game and took care of perennial rival Jordan, 9 - 5.
Defense and goaltending were the story of the day with keeper Emma Wall blanking North Salt Lake in the first half and allowing a stingy 4 goals against 13 saves for the game. Goalkeeper Laura Wilson stood between the pipes for her first entire game of the season against Jordan and took up where "The Wall" left off, allowing only 5 lamp-lighters. Staunch defenders Monica Barton, Estie Pyper and Portia Cao repelled their rival's strong attackers and repeatedly denied access down low into the fan.
Game 1 scoring was led by rookie midfielder Jessica Cowley with 3 and veteran middies Gaby Regenhardt and Hailey Schiff each tallying 2. Game 2 scoring was spread among 5 different girls with Gaby Regenhardt leading the charge with 3, Hailey Schiff and rookie midfielder Olivia Winters each with 2, and veteran middie Payton Schiff and attacker Rachel Kamradt with 1 dinger apiece.
Standout play included middies Olivia Winters and Payton Schiff making numerous successful transitions and veteran Nancy Linford winning most of her draws at center and making pretty feeds inside the 8. While not appearing on the scoresheet, important contributions and ball-control was provided by all, including rookies Abie Simons, Sarah Linford, Miklain Huntsman and Lexi Gordon, assisted admirably by veteran Catherine Coats.
While un-confirmed as of this report, the JR. Girls are expecting to compete in a make-up game on 5/19 at Noon with Judge at Swanson Farms Park, then concluding the regular season against Evergreen and Park City at Ecker Hills in Park City on 6/2 at 9AM.
