Raven Jr. Girls Win Again

5/6/07 - Waterford Jr. Girls won to improve their 2007 season record to 4-0-1 in the cold and driving rain on Saturday, 5/5.

After basking in summer-like conditions the previous weekend, the Jr. Girls were greeted with real Rocky Mountain spring weather, featuring a steady, wind-driven and frigid rain/snow mix. The JR's opponent, Alta, gamely battled the Waterford girls but eventually succumbed to the elements and the Ravens with Waterford prevailing 10 to 3.

The Raven girls had the opportunity to shift around and play a number of positions. Saturday's scoring reflected this with 6 different contributors including 4 new names. Repeat scorers included midfielders Erin Orchard leading the way with 3 and Gaby Regenhardt continuing where she left off last week adding 2 more. New faces included rookies Sydney Horne burying 2, and Jessica Cowley and Olivia Winters both finding the back of the net for the first time. Veteran Rachel Kamradt also posted her first career dinger. High-scoring middies Nancy Linford, Hailey Schiff and Payton Schiff were content to support the rookies in their quest to appear on the tally sheet.

Defense's biggest challenge was keeping warm as the majority of action was in Waterford's offensive zone. Keeper Emma Wall had to have her fingers pried off her stick after a relatively quite afternoon. Defenders Monica Barton, Portia Cao, and Laura Wilson effectively kept Alta out of the fan for most of the day. Veteran defender Estie Pyper and rookies Miklain Huntsman and Sarah Linford saw their first midfield duty of the season. Solid play was contributed by rookies Abie Simons and Lexi Gordon as well as veteran Catherine Coats.

Waterford JR Girls continue their season on Saturday, 5/12 at Altara Elementary, 800 E 11000 S, vs. powerhouse North Salt Lake @ Noon and perennial contender Jordan @ 1:30.
