Raven JR Girls Show Class in Decisive Win

5/20/07 - Waterford JR girls lacrosse team showed their class, first shrugging off the notion of accepting a win by forfeit, insisting on a make-up game, then taking care of business with a decisive 10 to 1 victory against rival Judge.

Goalkeeper Emma "the" Wall reinforced her moniker by coming up just short of her first season shutout, recording 13 saves while allowing only 1 get by. Emma and fellow keeper Laura Wilson have combined to hold their opponents to 5 goals or less 5 times this season. Defenders Estie Pyper, Monica Barton and Portia Cao continued their stellar play, generally wreaking havoc by knocking down and picking-off passes, and rarely allowing the Judge attackers inside the arc. Rookie middies Olivia Winters and Abie Simons moved the ball quickly up the field in transition.

Scoring tally was led by veteran middies Nancy Linford and Payton Schiff with 3 apiece. Rookie midfielder Jessica Cowley and veteran attacker Gaby Regenhardt continued their scoring streaks by adding 2 and 1 respectively, and of special note, rookie attacker Sarah Linford buried a laser to light the lamp and notch her first career dinger. As usual, valuable support was contributed by rookie attackers Catherine Coats, Miklain Huntsman and veteran Rachel Kamradt.

After a week off for the Labor Day holiday, the JR girls will conclude their regular season on Saturday, 6/2, at Ecker Hills in Park City, playing their host Park City at 9AM, then taking on likely playoff rival Evergreen at 10:30.
